Newcomb, Daniel: SIDEBURNERSNewcomb, Daniel:SIDEBURNERSartistatement: “My mind is often scattered, jumping from one idea to another. Having multiple projects in my view helps me focus my energy each day. Whether it’s a series of poignant images that delve into humanity’s eternal struggle between heaven and hell or the soulful strains of a street serenade that stir my nostalgic longing, as in my “Downtown Dreams” series. I am always in search of that image, the one that resonates deeply with a vision I have locked away in my mind. My empathy for the photograph allows me to balance ideas that keep me interested while also grounding me in my art. I always have another frame ready on the Sideburner. For me, photography is not solely about the context of an actual frame. It is about my relationship with the moment behind the lens. Each of my images holds personal memories that are significant only to me. The photographs become vessels of remembrance, encapsulating specific moments in time and providing insights into my understanding of the world around me. The interplay of light and shadow in my images marks the genesis of my nostalgia, where the nuanced grays between brilliance and obscurity invite open interpretation and reflection. By arranging these collections of photons on surfaces other than my own, I cultivate a sense of grounding, anchoring myself firmly in the present and warding off the shadows while capturing the light. My art serves a conduit for expressing the spectrum of human emotions tied up in all of us - love, hate, joy or indifference. I pursue these shadows and light as an act of self-preservation, hoping that the viewer might share in the emotions of my life.” © Megastar Publishing Inc. 2024, all rights reserved This book is protected by copyright.
